Poem by Kwabena Agyare Yeboah (Ghana)

Moonlight

Death,
It is said you would return someday
I sit here with your drum

I will pay you with Auntie Esi's pepper
Come for your rent

It is you who make warriors bite dust
Smuggler of fate, quench your thirst with palm oil

Okigbo, Achebe, Awoonor -
you smeared your ash on them at the battleground

bangles now rattle

If you ever return, please, pick your footprints
I sit here with your drum
