La calle obscura

el sonido agudo de aquella amarilla lámpara

y los insectos con su hastioso zumbido

a media noche

y te esperaba

The dark street

the sharp noise of that yellow lamp

and the insects with their annoying buzz

at midnight

No soy nada

sólo fantasía creada por ti

cuando quieras me destruyes

o me cambias de guión.

No soy nada

sólo simple pensamiento

que acabó cuando ya no deslizaste

el lápiz sobre la hoja

Mi cintura es tu mejor metáfora

y mis piernas la gran reseña de tu vida.

No soy nada más que letra

palabra clavada en el ojo

sublime idea muerta en el papel.

I am nothing

just a specter you created.

You destroy me or change the script

whenever you want.

I am nothing

just a simple thought

that ends when you can’t slide

your pencil across the page.

My waist is your best metaphor

and my legs the great critique of your life.

I am nothing more than a verse

a word caught in your eye,

a lofty idea dead on paper.

Esa mujer de falda blanca

a la que el viento le acaricia las piernas

y le despeina el cabello.

Entre palomas atraviesa la plaza

con paso suave y de prisa

huyendo del ruido de la tarde naranja

como queriendo ocultar un recuerdo

entre los pliegues de la falda

y en  cada hebra de cabello

al viento.

That woman in the white skirt –

the wind caresses her legs

and ruffles her hair.

She crosses the plaza among pigeons

with a step that is soft yet quick

escaping the noise of the orange afternoon

as if she could hide –

within the pleats of her skirt

and under each strand of hair –

a memory from the wind.
